Muhammad Rauf Case:Key Individuals

Muhammad Rauf Before Murdered By Biological Mother

Key Individuals

Understanding the Muhammad Rauf case requires identifying the principal individuals involved and the roles they played during the investigation and subsequent criminal proceedings. The descriptions below are based on publicly available information from police statements, court proceedings, and credible news reports.

Editorial Note: The roles described for criminal defendants reflect allegations made by investigators and prosecutors unless otherwise indicated. They should not be interpreted as final judicial findings.

Muhammad Rauf

Age: 13

Role: Victim

Muhammad Rauf was a 13-year-old boy from Parigimulya Village, Cipunagara District, Subang Regency, West Java.

According to investigators and witness accounts, Rauf had been living in unstable conditions following his parents' divorce. Police stated that he was no longer residing inside the family home and reportedly survived through occasional assistance from local residents while spending many nights at a neighborhood security post (poskamling).

Investigators concluded that Rauf remained alive after the alleged assault inside the residence and ultimately died from drowning after being abandoned in an irrigation canal in neighboring Indramayu Regency, according to forensic findings presented during the investigation.

Nurhani

Age: 40

Relationship to Victim: Biological mother

Status: Criminal defendant

According to police and prosecutors, Nurhani became the principal suspect in the investigation.

Authorities alleged that she participated in the assault on her son inside the family residence before later transporting him to an irrigation canal in Indramayu Regency rather than seeking emergency medical treatment.

Prosecutors further alleged that she played the leading role in the sequence of events that resulted in Rauf's death.

She was charged under Indonesia's Child Protection Law as well as Articles 340 and 338 of the Indonesian Criminal Code.

The allegations against Nurhani were presented before the court, where they became subject to judicial examination.

Pramono

Age: 70

Relationship to Victim: Maternal grandfather

Status: Criminal defendant

According to investigators, Pramono was the first family member to confront Rauf after the boy entered the residence on the evening of October 3, 2023.

Police alleged that he initiated the physical assault, and investigators later recovered several items from the residence that were submitted for forensic examination as part of the case.

Prosecutors accused Pramono of participating in the events that ultimately led to the victim's death.

His alleged role formed part of the criminal case presented during judicial proceedings.

Sugiyanto

Age: 24

Relationship to Victim: Maternal uncle

Status: Criminal defendant

Investigators alleged that Sugiyanto became involved after being called to assist during the incident inside the residence.

According to police, he restrained Rauf by tying the victim's hands behind his back and later assisted in transporting the injured child from Subang Regency to Indramayu Regency.

These allegations formed part of the prosecution's theory of the case and were examined during court proceedings.

Dirno

Age: 43

Relationship to Victim: Biological father

Dirno lived separately from Rauf following his divorce from Nurhani.

He was not identified as a criminal suspect in the investigation.

Following the arrests, Dirno publicly expressed profound grief over his son's death. In interviews with Indonesian media, he called for the defendants to receive the maximum punishment permitted by law if convicted by the court.

His public statements reflected the emotional impact of the case on the victim's surviving family members.

Investigators

Lead Agency: Indramayu Police (Polres Indramayu)

The investigation was led by detectives from the Indramayu Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim Polres Indramayu), working in coordination with law enforcement authorities in Subang Regency.

Investigators reconstructed the victim's final movements through forensic analysis, crime scene examinations, witness interviews, physical evidence, and timeline reconstruction.

Their investigation led to the arrest of three suspects within approximately 24 hours after the discovery of Rauf's body.

Forensic Specialists

Institution: Bhayangkara Hospital

Forensic medical specialists conducted the autopsy that became one of the most important pieces of evidence in the case.

Their examination concluded that although the victim had sustained multiple blunt-force injuries, the immediate cause of death was asphyxia due to drowning.

The presence of water and mud in the victim's respiratory tract indicated that he remained alive after entering the irrigation canal, a finding that significantly influenced the legal direction of the case.

Indonesia's Child Protection Commission (KPAI)

Although not directly involved in the criminal investigation, KPAI became one of the leading public institutions commenting on the broader implications of the case.

The commission highlighted concerns regarding prolonged child neglect, the responsibilities of families and public institutions, and the importance of earlier intervention when children are believed to be living in vulnerable circumstances.

Its statements helped shift public discussion beyond the criminal allegations to wider issues surrounding child welfare and institutional responsibility.
