What began as the recovery of a child's body in an irrigation canal quickly evolved into one of the fastest homicide investigations in the region.
Within hours of identifying the victim as Muhammad Rauf, investigators from the Indramayu Police expanded their inquiry beyond the location where the body had been discovered. Working in coordination with officers in Subang Regency, detectives focused on reconstructing the victim's final movements and identifying everyone who had been in contact with him during the hours before his death.
According to police, the investigation followed three parallel lines of inquiry: establishing the victim's last known whereabouts, documenting the physical evidence recovered from both crime scenes, and interviewing family members, neighbors, and other potential witnesses.
The first major breakthrough came after investigators examined the residence of Rauf's maternal grandfather in Parigimulya Village.
Inside the house, detectives reported finding bloodstains that appeared to have been partially cleaned. The discovery immediately attracted forensic attention because the injuries documented during the autopsy suggested that significant blunt-force trauma had occurred before the victim entered the irrigation canal.
Crime scene investigators carefully documented the residence, photographed suspected blood evidence, and collected samples for forensic analysis. Officers also seized several objects believed to have possible evidentiary value, including a woodworking saw, wooden sticks, and a metal rod. These items were later examined alongside the medical findings to determine whether they were consistent with the victim's injuries.

Another important aspect of the investigation involved reconstructing the route between Parigimulya Village in Subang Regency and the irrigation canal in Anjatan District, Indramayu Regency.
Investigators examined the timeline of the alleged journey, interviewed individuals who had contact with the suspects during the early morning hours, and collected information regarding the motorcycle reportedly used to transport the victim. According to police, these findings helped establish the sequence of events presented during the criminal investigation.
Digital evidence also formed part of the inquiry.
Investigators analyzed mobile phone records, witness communications, and other available information to verify the timeline established through interviews and physical evidence. While authorities did not publicly disclose every detail of the digital examination, police stated that the combined evidence consistently supported their reconstruction of the case.

The arrests marked the beginning of the judicial phase of the case, shifting the investigation from evidence gathering to criminal prosecution under Indonesia's Child Protection Law and Criminal Code.
